The Music Collection

The music collection consists of mainly late 18th and early 19th century sheet music. It is comprised primarily of the popular music and songs of the period with a substantial selection of pieces printed by Irish music publishers.

Some of these Dublin printed pieces are rare single page “pirated” editions copied from the London publishers. As these were printed on very poor quality paper, some like tissue, their survival is all the more remarkable.

There are also a selection of first editions (which were by subscription only) of Strathspey reels by, amongst others, Neil Gow.

Another interesting part of the collection is an amount of 18th century sheet music by Thomas Moor.
